Caregiver and Hybrid work

My mom is 84yo and is very frail and gets dizzy a lot. Lately she has been having trouble breathing and they said she has pulmonary embolism in both lungs. Her bones are brittle her doctors don’t even recommend light exercise. I am her full time caregiver. But I am also the main breadwinner in our family and have to work full time. My job is hybrid and I am required to go onsite 2 days a week. It sounded reasonable, my husband works graveyard shift and he takes over watching her when I have to go in.

However, he also needs to sleep and when she is struggling, I cannot just leave her. If she can’t breathe and no one is available I fear the worst.

My employer is not very sympathetic and I got in trouble for not coming in when I was supposed to, even though I get all my work done.

Today I had to stay home, and I was fully capable of working from home in between checking on her and taking her to the doctors or picking up her meds.

Today they had me use a sick day even though people are still calling, emailing and sending chats. I am salaried and they expect me to work weekends and evenings to get my projects done. I don’t mind figuring if I do this for them, when I need them to be flexible, they will be.

Nope. They suck and I don’t know how this will all play out. All my reviews has been excellent, I am always helpful and complete my projects on time.

I can’t just look for another job, I am 59yo and wanted this to be my last job.

What would you do in this situation? Wait for them to fire me for calling out too much?
