Why are karens on the rise? Maybe not the public ones who go into meltdown live for us all to enjoy but the… quiet karens…
Ive been chatting to mates who are customer facing and some of the stuff they tell me that kicks off over literally bugger all is incredible.
Our neigbours daughter has just turned 17 and pre GCSE she was working as a waitress at a local cafe. Employers were lovely. No unreasonable demands, decent pay and she could take any hours she wanted to suit school life.
She recently left though as customers were just so nasty to her over nothing it was casuing undue stress pre exams.
Just one of the examples she gave was shen she took orders to a table of 6 and asked who had what the lead of the table got proper arsey and said “you should know you took the orders” and the stared her down.
She said in general peope were just short and rude for no reason too. Like they wouldnt make a public scene like your classic karen they just held everyone else up for nothing.
Another friend of mine works as a receptionist and this week at bang on closing time a woman ran up to the door and started banging on the glass thats its an emergency and she needs something quick (she needed a blood test request form). Her and her colleauge opened the door and she proceeded to stand about 3m from the desk and whisper her details.
My friend asked her to speak up or come closer which she did neither of then accused my friend of making fun of her, for her greek last name. My friend re itterated that was not the case and she just didnt hear her but this woman could not be convinced until the woman started shouting…
My friend got to work this morning to get an email forwarded from HR with a completely differnt story 3 lines in and hows its all my friends fault and this woman has to know the outcome of this situation and demands an apology for her actions…
All this then remined me of the time when i worked at a dealership and had an old chap raise a few quieries and questions about his new car. I spent an hour with him explaining all the bits he wanted to know (sales' job. Not mine) and I even took a piece off of one of our showroom cars to fix an issue he claimed to have. After all this he contacted management and said a tech came out to him but seemee disinterested and was no help to him at all.
Its always the older geeration too i need to note. I have had ONE shitty encounter with my generation and while it was big a single encounter doesnt compare to a load of bullshit over nothing.
What does it cost to be nice?
