So I started a new job in September, I told them about the plans I had already made to travel. This new job only offers 10 days PTO whereas my old job offered 24. At this new job they have comp time and sick pay, so they told me I could gain comp time and use it to be able to go on my vacations.
Anyways, I worked lots of events and got around 5 days of comp time! One of the policies is that we can use our comp time before anything, before sick time, before vacation time, anything. So when I was submitting my time sheets, I made sure to do that.
However, I got pulled over and basically talked to in an aggressive tone saying I wasn’t allowed to do that and that I need to use my vacation time first. After that, I went to look at the employee policy book, but there was nothing mentioned in it regarding that, it was only verbally.
Fast forward to last month and they said that comp time always goes before vacation time no matter what. It’s now in writing and everything, so I have the proof here.
How can I go about getting my vacation time back? Since my vacation time was about expire, and I suspect that they didn’t want me to carry it over past the expiration date, they would’ve had to pay me for it. So, by making me use my vacation time first, I wouldn’t have any leftover for them to pay me. I was actually going to use that time, I had a whole trip planned and everything and was disappointed when I found out that they didn’t let me keep the time. I also had those 5 days of comp time expire as well :/
I told my supervisor about it and she talked to our bosses and she defended me, to which they said that they would be willing to give me SOME of my comp time back (they didn’t mention vacation time, which I know that they know that’s what they took from me and owe me). What can I do?
Oh also when I even asked to see the employee handbook they got really aggressive and we’re being rude and my boss even shoved me twice without apologizing. I made sure to at least document that via email. I’ve been avoiding them as much as I can because they’re old and rude boomers :/
