I no longer work there but something just occurred to me and I’m curious how others take it.
I worked in a small non profit that brought on a new CEO a few years back. We’d always had casual Friday as an option (wear jeans etc) but then we started being told the only way to earn casual Friday was if we made a recurring donation to the local United Way chapter, which also happened to be the last place my new CEO had worked.
The donation could be small, like $2 per paycheck. But that adds up over the year. The whole thing felt weird, but we were told it looked good if we could say 100% of our staff had donated.
Has anyone else experienced something like this at their company? Being “encouraged” to donate to an organization linked to leadership?
