TLDR at the end
I have worked in food service for almost 7 years. We have had a dozen orders stolen by drivers who unassign in the parking lot in the last month. So now we have been asked by upper management to watch them confirm they received the order.
First of all, he pretends to take a picture of the order, and goes “It wont let me take a picture! Oh well!” and before he leaves I ask him to please confirm the order. It was a large order right before closing. I really wasn’t trying to remake all of it. I also know that’s not how DoorDash works. You don’t take photos at the restaurant.
He then begins yelling at me and saying that my system should tell me whether he confirmed the order or not. I told him that it does not. He tells me that I must be new but I’m a manager so obviously I’m not?
I keep telling him all he has to do is show me him pushing the button on his app. He instead gets belligerent. I am 24 and small so I was afraid. I end up asking him to leave and to unassign the order. He pretends to look for the unassign button for 10 minutes while yelling at me.
He refuses to leave and he is told the police will be called. He still refuses to leave and tells me I need to be drug tested and I am on pills. Which hurt because I do take some prescribed strong medications for mental health and it made me feel so bad.
I tell him he is making everyone feel afraid and uncomfortable and he starts laughing at me. He then says I am afraid of him because he’s black. It definitely wasn’t because I am a young short female that has a tall grown man being hostile and aggressive. It was just me and two other girls, one who is only 18. He waits for the police and eventually they show and ask him to leave.
I once was physically attacked by a grown man at a different food service job when I was 21. I was thrown into a counter because he didn’t have enough lemon pepper seasoning on his wings. So this was actually really scary for me. I still am really sad and upset. I was just doing my job.
TLDR; A DoorDash Driver planned on stealing an order and he became really aggressive and hostile. Upper management has been on our asses about waste and food cost and I didn’t want to remake an order right before close. Our inventory variation has been under scrutiny and I want to just keep my job simple and less stressful. I have to email my district manager what the variance is nightly so if it’s off it is very stressful.
