My daughter had a new job as a CSR, got four weeks training, and had worked two more weeks for a total of six weeks. The employer announced at the four week mark, that the staff could not leave on time, they had to wait for an “all clear” from the supervisor to make sure all the work was done before they could leave. The contract she was hired on said no forced overtime, voluntary overtime only. In addition, she was never told who her supervisor was. The all clear would come via email from an anonymous supervisor.
Frustrated, she just collected her stuff and walked off the job one Friday afternoon. She would have told a supervisor, if she'd had one to tell. The employer didn't call her until the next Wednesday. The person who finally called was her original recruter, not a supervisor.
Is this the new normal? An employee takes all their stuff, goes home, doesn't come back, and it takes three and a half business days for them to call to ask if they are coming in to work?
