So I submitted an unemployment claim back in May 2023 because my mom passed away. My employer fought the claim and won, forcing me to pay back the amount since I failed to fill out a specific document before taking my leave. (The death was sudden and accidental, so I'm trying to appeal the decision since there's no way I could've planned this) They rehired me in August 2023 as part of a rehire agreement. However, they said they didn't have any work in my immediate area, so I had to commute 62 miles to another regional office for shifts, I was only getting 32 hours a week there, but it was still something. 2 weeks ago, they removed me from the 2 sites I was working at because of poor attendance (I have sleep apnea) and am currently in the process of getting an accommodation for it. 4 weeks ago, they said they had openings for me, but dragged their feet and didn't get back to me. I get removed from the sites and those openings they said they had for me magically vanish. I had been going back and forth for like 7 months trying to find something closer. I submitted another unemployment claim because I'm not sure how long they're going to make me wait for work. I'm wondering what I should do in the meantime and if I should look into legal counsel. How would I go about getting free or cheap legal help?
