Sticking to scheduled shifts. Short staffed… Not my problem!

Our department is notorious for being short staffed. We keep going +1 -2 staff and are now only 2 active people + lead. I am so sick of our lead trying to pencil in shifts (which is not allowed). I am sick of being told that work isn't getting done (due to being short staffed) well hire some damn help. I recently had to file a union grievance for our lead trying to take away approved pto on vacations I had scheduled on the books for the past 6 months. I am limiting my self to no more than 2 heavy items and no more than 4-5 items on my cart. It is not worth injury or long term health issues. Once I realized staffing wasn't my issue I became a lot easier. I fine tuned my availablity so they could not schedule me more than 5 days in a row and take off 4 days a week off once a mo. I am so sick of this bs.
