Massive reference catastrophe (UK) – in this situation it seems I should lie?!?

Right, so I have worked for over a decade for a small charity, my entire adult life pretty much! The employer died, the charity collapsed after and I failed higher education I have been unemployed for a year. I finally started getting interviews recently and then found out I have nobody to use for work references! I can't find anyone. I was finally going to start a customer service/security role (that doesn't need DBS(a security guard type course)) and I don't know what to do. Surely they will be stricter with references because it's security related? I am close to losing my house, I don't have time to do a job volunteering to get a work reference. Should I get a friend to lie for me in this horrible situation? Or be honest and use one of my friends for a character reference IF I am even allowed to.. all…

Thank you.
