Hello, I currently work in Spain for an IT company and I consider myself lucky with where I am. I have good conditions, and my salary has been increased twice a year as agreed upon when I joined. Every six months, I've had a raise of 4-5k (the starting salary was 21k approximately).
Now, the situation is that salary reviews are annual from now on. My next review is coming up soon and, to be honest, I have a good salary, but I consider that the work I do has great value for the company. Most of my department's objectives are achieved because of my contributions and I help most of other departments too with ease. I believe I bring great value to the company and they know it, and it's worth for them to keep me.
That said, HR always prioritizes their own insterests, so I expect a raise of around 3-4k. This will seem low to me compared to previous increases and, as said, the value I provide to the company. I have a few questions:
- How would you ask for a higher salary raise in this situation? They'll probably come with the budget topic, or that it isn't possible in this moment,. Is it difficult to ask for more, even though they have already increase my salary by their own will?
- If the increase is greater, would you ask for even more? How would you approach it?
- Do you think it would be good to negotiate a raise for mid-next year so I don't have to wait a full year? Would this have consequences?
I'm almost as valued as in other companies in my sector and position, but I always want more.
Finally, in my case, the usual advice of “the best way of getting a raise is to switch companies” it not valid in my case, I'm not going to change company because here my conditions are excellent in terms of flexibility, working hours… I'm simply ambitious in these financial matters. Maybe even too much, that's why I want to know.
Thank you for your answers.
