First of all, even if I'm complaining right now, I'm aware that I'm at a very lucky and unusual position, and I feel very grateful for that. Three months ago, I received a great public employment offer. It was part of a greater public employment network for young people carried out by the European Union, and many public entities receive money in order to create specific temporary positions in order to help young people to gain work experience. Specifically, my job is part of a project pushed by a city council. Every few months, this city council creates job offers for people under 30 from different areas to offer them a temporary job that lasts from 6 to 12 months, and they don't ask for experience, the only requirements are to be under 30 and to have an specific education.
The thing about these offers is that the conditions are GREAT. Because it's technically a civil servant job, we have the same conditions as a regular civil servant who is in the same position. I don't know how civil servant jobs work in other countries, but here in Spain, there are three ranks for civil servants: A, B and C. A1 corresponds to the highest level, and it's difficult to get to this position, because you have to do a difficult exam, to have enough relevant work experience, to have a relevant university degree, to have language certificates, etc, and on top of that there aren't many vacancies, so even if you pass the exam and meet all the requirements, you are not guaranteed to get the job. But if you do, you get a job with many holidays, a decent schedule, and a salary higher than 80-90% of salaries in the country.
So, thanks to this program, I'm now earning as much as a A1 civil servant, without having to have done any exam and with only a year of work experience. Of course, this will be over in 6 months, and there is no possibility of extending it unless I do the exam, but it's not realistic for me to get the position considering that work experience matters a lot. But for now, I'm working 37'5 hours a week, which is actually 35 hours because we have a 30 minute break per day, I work from 7:30 to 15, and I'm earning almost 3000 euros net. This is like a dream come true, since before this job I didn't have any money of my own, I was financially dependant on my parents and I was unemployed for a while, which was really taking a toll on my mental health. Thanks to this job, I can finally save for my future plans, and since I'm living with my parents and I don't have much expenses, I can save most of it. However, the job is kinda bullshit because it's a position specifically created for this program, so they don't really need me. The project itself is important, but I'm not allowed to do significant things, because that's the job of my supervisors, so I'm mostly organising old data that they didn't have time to organise, doing bibliographic work and helping my supervisors when they go to take samples, but I haven't gone on my own to take samples, and I don't have access to some databases, so I can't do as many things as I could, and I'm not learning much, which would be significant to help me find another job once the contract finish. The supervisors are very chill and they don't push me much, but while that's nice, I wish they would be give me more of a challenge. I feel that they treat me like an undergraduate intern, more than like another worker. Therefore, I feel quite useless and insignificant, and I feel like I don't deserve to earn that much money, even if I rationally think that all jobs should have a good salary, and that there are people who literally don't do anything and they earn much more. Plus, the contract will finish in 6 months anyway.
I don't know if this is the best place to post about this, but I thought it could be because I saw similar posts about bullshit jobs. I would like to know how to make the most of a bullshit position.
