I work for a very small company that works in animal care. We made more money than we expected in the last fiscal year, but this year they are predicting we won’t. They claimed that we have no money for raises or bonuses because the budget is so tight, so they got rid of our 5% cost of living raises and shrunk our merit raises to 1%. When you’re making $20/hr, 1% is an absolute joke!
Fast forward 1 month. We are about to have a company meeting about finances, and we just found out today our director just promoted himself with a substantial pay raise, and promoted our head manager to an even more senior role with a huge pay raise. We are technically a non-profit so I’m not sure if there’s anything we can do about this. All I know is the whole team is ready to quit of this and I feel like I might as well.
