I was going to report child abuse — told my supervisors — and was let go 2 weeks later.

I was working in a school classroom. My 2nd day I saw the teacher get excessively aggressive with one of the children. I’m hired by a temp agency — I therefore called my temp recruiter and told him and asked if I needed district managers number for after I Childline the teacher. He told me not to Childline the teacher, and ‘these things happen.’ This happened on a Friday, so that following Monday the school sat down with me and essentially told me the same thing — never to call without talking to them. Confusing because I was taught to Childline then tell supervisor. I’m temp so I didn’t know who to speak to (recruiter or district supervisor of temp), that’s why I even called in the first place. Beyond that, the following two weeks this took on a life of its own and I was not only alienated by the staff but now I’ve been let go.

They said it was due to inexperience but I was upfront about my experience during the interview. The recruiter said, ‘they were desperate, they’re not anymore’ .. as in they were desperate to fill my spot. The recruiter is now finding me a new position elsewhere, with a different school. Confusing because if I’m inexperienced, how can I be put elsewhere?

I can understand the teacher being upset, but I don’t understand why I’m being disciplined for doing the right thing. At one point the school supervisor told me she ‘doesn’t believe me’ (with my recounting of the incident) and that the teacher would never.

Now I’m nervous. All around nervous. What did I do wrong? Did I do the right thing? How could I have fixed it? What didn’t I do that I could’ve done? How can I prevent this from occurring again? What am I supposed to do if this ever occurs again?

I’m going to delete this post regardless, just wanted to see if this has ever happened to anyone or maybe if anyone has encountered anything similar.
