I (F51) have been at my job for 23 years as an office manager. (Country Club) I can take up to 5 weeks of vacation a year.
So far this year I have taken 2.5 days of vacation. Boyfriend and I couldn't do anything this Labor Day Weekend as he was on call ( and had a call out on Saturday & Sunday.) I was called for jury duty selection today so I went to work on Labor Day to prepare payroll. (I was selected for duty for a 3-day trial – yay me.)
Background – I'm the only one at the club that can do my job. I have no backup, unlike everyone else. There is only a 7ish day window each month that I can take a vacation. The last time I took 10 days off (including weekend and memorial Day) was May of 2022. Since the in it's only been 3-day weekends based on my BF new job.
I have jury duty this week. Yay. I worked on Labor Day to process payroll. I was selected today so I will have to work before and after court to complete paperwork for payroll and monthly billing.
I went to work during the lunch recess today and mentioned to my boss that I will need a replacement 3-day weekend as I had to work and my BF responded to 2 emergency calls. My boss dared to question me!! He took 2 weeks off the end of July/ early August. Reminded him of my 2.5 days. Oh, and I took 8 days in 2023.
I need a fucking vacation!!! However, looking at the calendar I have to do payroll Thanksgiving week and Christmas week. FML.
