I quit my job at THE BEST company in my area last year.
From an outside perspective, this company looks fantastic and employees are proud to tell people where they work. They do great work for the community, pride themselves on customer service, and brag about how well they treat their employees.
Working there was a different story. They loved saying we were a family, which is true if you compare the workplace politics to a toxic family dynamic. The pay, medical, and retirement benefits were horrendous. After two years of being told “the grass is always greener on the other side,” I accepted a job at another company with better pay, great health insurance (that my employer pays for 100%), and no “family” BS.
I deal with insurance now and occasionally help people from my previous company. They recently slashed one specific benefit to the point where it’s in their employees best interest to NOT use or even enroll in it. Telling people their “family” is providing them the worst plan I’ve dealt with and witnessing them come to the same realization I did a year ago gives me hope… and confirms that the grass was indeed greener on the other side.
