To join or not to join?

Hey all, I could use some weigh in. So I work for tesla, and yesterday I was approached before work by a representative for the united auto workers union to weigh in on starting a union. Everything on me says to go for it, but my wife had raised a very good point in that the organizers of a union have a habit of getting fired for attempting to unionize. I can't really afford to lose my job as it's hands down the best paying job I've had, but I really don't feel secure in my employment to begin with. The mass layoff a few months ago destroyed any sense of job security i had, and I feel like a union would help to alleviate that feeling.

It's also worth noting that the first meeting I was invited to was at an organizers house, which gave my wife bad vibes, so I'm joining a zoom call on Saturday.

Personally I feel I should polish up the old resume and start looking for alternative employment while trying to form this union, just in case, but I really want this union to happen.

I appreciate any and all input, thank you.

Edit: I'm a 32 year old man and the sole income for my household.
