I’m 19 and I’m home for the summer after a year of college. I’m wanting to do summer school to get more credits. My parents agreed I could focus on school if I apply to one job. There’s a Greek restaurant near my house that I’ve never seen a single person walk into ever. I assumed they were struggling and wouldn’t hire me, so I’d ask them and get rejected. I walk in at 6 PM and it’s empty as usual. I tell the only guy I want to be a waiter. He says they don’t need waiters but I can be a busser who helps wash dishes and move inventory. I was caught off guard they hired me so I agreed. He walks me to the back of the restaurant to meet the owner. This is where it gets weird. The owner is counting money. He says this is a slow paced family restaurant. I’m sorta lazy and I’m actually excited and then I notice he’s counting a lot of money. There was at least multiple thousands of dollars on the table. I was shocked how his restaurant is doing so well if no one is here. He said I’d make 14 an hour to clear tables and when no ones there I’ll help with innovatory. I’ve only worked at one restaurant but they never had money like this and they were an extremely popular place. Something seems off but I don’t know if I’m just naive and don’t get how some restaurants work. My dad says they probably make that money from the bar and not to worry. They said come in Saturday to try it out. Should I take the job?
