still shit at titles, so sorry about that from the go! I'm just so excited but within my excitement I can see how important the fight for livable wage is
I interviewed with a company a while back and didn't get the job, but I was actually happy. I don't want to be a manager right now, so I took a sales spot within a small company. oh boy, the work and people are ok but the wage and benefits are shit. I spend every day thinking about how none of the work is worth doing, because I can't afford life.
Well they called me back because they have another spot they needed filled. Went and interviewed today, and it went so fucking great. they asked what I wanted to be paid, and I was so nervous but I asked for $10,000 more than what I said for the managerial spot. Even though it's a different spot, they said they'll do what they need to to match it! holy shit! thanks to you guys, I wasn't afraid to ask more! I was nervous and explained that life is just too expensive basically, and they agreed and said it's no issue. On my way home, I cried in relief. I know I don't have it yet, but the thought of being able to provide for my wife and family like I want to just brings out so many emotions. Plus, the work is shit I love doing!!!
My second thought was just how important it is that we demand more money. Know your worth, it's always more than you think. It's still not going to be enough to achieve our dreams, but it's a start. The first thing I'll do is join a union within this industry.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for construction unions? Not a worker, but in supplying. I can google myself as well, but y'all always have some good feedback. Stay safe yall, love yourself and know what you should make.
