Casual shift advice

Edit to add: I’m in South Australia This is a throw away for obvious reasons. I’m just looking for some advice and maybe a place to vent. I’ve been working in a particular company for a few years now with staff ranging from school age to retirement, both casual and permanent. It’s not a place I’m wanting to stay. I am the primary carer for a child who is currently still on day care waiting lists. With his father working full time hours I am limited with when I can work. I have come back from maternity leave with two permanent shifts that were a perfect fit. Since then I have changed departments while keeping the same hours and had a new boss.

After a few months I found that I needed an extra shift to cover bills etc. this was given to me as a casual shift.

Now to note, I do understand that casual shifts can be changed or taken with no notice etc. what I’m concerned about it’s that after awhile of doing this shift (and by what I’ve heard, doing it well) I have suddenly not been offered it. I have messaged the boss through the appropriate channels (as I can barely catch them face to face) to let them know I am still available to do this particular shift if needed, with no reply. I also heard that it was up for a permanent position not long after so I contacted them again to let them know I was available for it and would like to be considered for the permanent position, again with no reply.

I’m not using this as a sympathy net (so many do) but I do have anxiety and for a lot of the time it’s my brain telling me “it’s your fault, everyone hates you” so I cannot help but take this personally.

Before I fell pregnant I was there as often as I could; covered sick leave, extended shifts on little notice, worked holidays etc. I also know loyalty has no place on this business. It just sucks. It’s time for me to go, I should have a long time ago.

Is there any advice you can give? Even if it’s terribly obvious.
