I took this role 6 months ago in a commodity trading company- 12 month contract to cover maternity leave. I am not in sales- I am in logistics coordination. Most of the sales people and all the upper management and directors work in a different office. I have zero interest in sales, anyone trying to convince me of things puts me off and I do not like convincing people to spend money.
A fortnight ago we had our annual staff day. By nature I am a problem solver, I am extroverted, and I am inquisitive. I also have a passion for food which is the industry we are in and I am pretty knowledgeable. These are not really traits my role needs, and they are not traits I get to exhibit at this job. During the staff day I had the freedom to do this- ask questions, lead a cooking activity, and question the reasons behind a new product launch for an item that is not popular in this country
This resulted in the director saying “You know, I was happy to have you here for 12 months. But now I’m seeing this side of you and I’m like wow, there’s something there! How do we keep her? How can we keep you? How can we make you a part of the business piece?”.
Which frankly has landed like a lead balloon. My direct supervisor has told me multiple times that our team (logistics) gets zero respect & all the blame, and I have seen it. The company attitude is that the sales staff at all levels have the monopoly on expertise, relationship building, and personality. Everybody else is a plebeian automaton. The director is just the Final Boss of Sales Bros and I am just so done. I resigned this morning.
