Antiwork

A “director” at work has scheduled annual one on ones with me. I suspect it’s really just for her to save her own ass. How can I handle this situation?

I work at a small company no larger than 10 people. This woman has the title of “Director” but isn’t even my direct boss. She suggested we have one on one meetings to go over what I’ve been working on week to week. At first it seemed friendly but I now realize it’s just so she can gauge my timesheet to point out where she feels I am wasting company time. These meetings have zero point and zero resolution to them and I’m realizing this is just her way of digging out information she can report to our actual boss to justify her role in the company. How can I get through these meetings without really giving her anything? Edit: I should add our company isn’t exactly doing great at the moment. We’ve failed to acquire new leads and this woman was brought in for that sole purpose, only for…

Edit: I should add our company isn’t exactly doing great at the moment. We’ve failed to acquire new leads and this woman was brought in for that sole purpose, only for us to be wrapping the year up and she has done absolutely nothing in that respect. Her salary is probably on the higher end of company too so I suspect she’s under some sort of pressure to get results.

Edit 2: Thanks for the advice from everyone. Figured I’d add more context. I’ve had my foot outside the door for some time now as I’ve felt like a lot of the red flags have been there, so looking for a new job has been in the works. I’m a senior level employee at this place and actually have a longer tenure than this director lady. And in terms of hierarchy, the director and I share the same boss, so really there’s no reason why I’m being managed by this person.
