A healthy work environment…

When I (27)was 16, I got my first job working for my friends dad at his workshop repairing printers for a summer. All of the employees got on well, they had the radio on, singing and joking around and morale was good. My friends dad who owned the small business paid more than fair wages, private health care (in UK where it is rare) , 26 days paid annual leave and didn't micromanage at all. There were approximately 10 employees total, and my friends dad would bring food gifts to the workshop every day, treat everyone for lunch now and again, and treat everyone with respect. Even when people made mistakes, no shouting, blaming or belittling of any employee. That was the only time in my life Ive had a manager/ boss who I liked and respected. I didn't think work was all that bad as it was such a great place to work.

  • just thought I'd share my experience, I'm currently earning just above the average salary in the UK and can barely afford anything, the cost of living crysis is ridiculous.

I know that I'm struggling financially when Orange Juice is a luxury good item, not second cars, holidays or movie tickets…
