a PAID working interview?

I searched this sub first and found a lot of posts about UNpaid working interviews… I was contacted by a recruiter last week, as I've been heavily applying for a job for weeks. Went through the initial process, she said she didn't have anything right away that met my needs. She then called me on Friday about a job where they had offered it to someone and after they had already let go of the person in that job prior, the new hire decided to take back their acceptance of the offer. I was contacted by a recruiter last week, as I've been heavily applying for a job for weeks. Went through the initial process, she said she didn't have anything right away that met my needs. She then called me on Friday about a job where they had offered it to someone and after they had already let go of the person in that job prior, the new hire decided to take back their acceptance of the offer. The recruiter said the new hire was supposed to start Monday (today). The pay was a little below what I was looking for (about 5k under) but they're open to negotiation.

She called me this morning stating that the company really needs to hire immediately for that position that now has nobody in it, and they are willing to do a paid working interview this week. I had never heard of this before, so I told her outright that I was a bit hesitant but would give it a shot with proper paperwork and such addressed before I do any work. She assured me that's no problem, and of course I would be paid for the day. She didn't give me much details, as I didn't really know what kind of questions to ask. However I do see it as a window of opportunity to ask for a higher salary if I do really well.

If she or the company do call me back today, to potentially come in as early as tomorrow, what things she I be asking/looking for? Green or red flags? Any advice to go into this with is much appreciated!
