Throwaway account. My child (19m) took some time off university this term and decided to make some extra money. Applied and was instantly hired. He has a medical condition which causes hair loss. He wears his hat when outside the house almost 100% of the time. He has been working at Target for the past two weeks wearing his hat, no problem. He is the back and stocking groceries, so he is in and out of the freezer and dock, others wear hats as well. He was approached on the floor today by the store manager who said in an aggressive tone “who said you can wear a hat”, that “it's against dress code”. Meanwhile my son has seen him on several occasions without any comment. He was told to “either take the hate off or get out of the store”. My son went to talk with HR who reponed with “well you never asked for an accommodation”. Which is true, he didn't even realize he needed to. He was told if he leaves its job abandonment, and he will be considered that he quit. He came home very upset naturally. This is a store that is practically begging people to apply. It's a lesson learned for my son. He needs to realize to ask for accommodation at his next job. But this could have been handled in a professional manner but instead they made it a shit show.
