Actual Waste of Time

Applied for a Customer Service/Inside Sales position for a print shop yesterday and instantly got a call back from the owner to set up an interview. They must have liked that I had a good amount of experience with print shops and graphic design. I was excited because the pay was $18/hr which I've never had an opportunity for that amount of money at 22 years old. Today I went in and was told to ask for the owner for my interview. Waited 10 minutes only to be told the owner wasn't available and the two people up at the front end would be conducting the interview. I thought fine, whatever no big deal.

They asked about my previous job experiences and how much I got paid, and then mentioned they didn't really know how to do interviews, so they handed me a stack of papers to full out.

The stack of papers consisted of application sheets (which I've already filled out that's why I'm here for an interview) and a page asking for 6 personal references.

4-5 extremely detailed sheets to fill out, but luckily they left me alone to fill them all out. Or so I thought.

2 minutes go by and they're blasting the door down asking if I'm finished with everything. No, no I'm not. I'm not even finished with half of the first page.

Another 2 minutes go by, they ask if I'm finished. Yeah I'm finished with 1 page, 4 more to go.

A generous 5 minutes goes by and I saved the reference sheet for last. Unfortunately I don't know 6 of my previous supervisors phone numbers, addresses, social security numbers, and astrological signs off the top of my head so I have to do some searching on my phone. I get a single reference down and they come in asking if I'm done.

I hold up the almost completely empty page with no emotion on my face. They sigh and ask me to bring everything out to them when I'm finished.

I hand them the papers once I'm done with my side quest of finding the info I need, I get told I might get a call back by the end of the week.

I'm so broke, but at the same time I'm tired of companies making me miserable.
