Advice needed for new work situation

I need advice and I don’t know where to ask aside from here. I work from home. I used to be full time in office. After pandemic they said we wouldn’t go back. I told them I was selling my car. Work is 30 minutes away. My small department is being asked to come into the office to work on a problem “when we can” that was created by someone who no longer works there. It is 10 pages of private sensitive info being moved from one pdf to another pdf. It’s going to take possibly months to do this. My partner is driving me to work, waiting for me for two hours, and then driving me home before he has to go to work. We are both frustrated by this but I don’t know how to approach the situation. My small department is being asked to come into the office to work on a problem “when we can” that was created by someone who no longer works there. It is 10 pages of private sensitive info being moved from one pdf to another pdf. It’s going to take possibly months to do this. My partner is driving me to work, waiting for me for two hours, and then driving me home before he has to go to work. We are both frustrated by this but I don’t know how to approach the situation. There is an assistant in the office with time to work on it. From what I gather, they don’t have confidence to allow this help. It has to be done in office because it’s an internal file system for this specific issue. There are three of us in this situation. I end up skipping my lunch hour to catch up on my actual job. I could lose points on my review which affects my compensation if I don’t go with the flow of new work. I’m very good at what I do, and this company has never said no to me. I love it there and I’m treated with the utmost respect. This is the first time anything like this has happened. How can I handle this with professionalism and respect for the need for do this while respecting my needs and issues too?
