If this isn't appropriate for this sub then feel free to delete; I'm just posting this here as I know many in this sub work across multiple jobs. Plus, I generally feel like the judgement of folk here is in line with my thoughts on work.
So I (32m) currently WFH full time in marketing, my partner in a similar role. I've recently had a (slight) cost of living raise and have been promised another pay increase before EoY; but with everything going on in the UK, we're still feeling the cost of living pinch. Plus I have a bit of credit card and loan debt that isn't helping with monthly costs. A local bar that we like is currently hiring part time – I have about 5-6 years of bar experience and a half-baked dream of opening a pub when I retire, so I'm considering picking up a second job.
Does anyone have a lot of experience with balancing a desk job and moonlighting in service? I'm weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately it comes down to more money vs more work. If I didn't have a second job, we could probably get by with some tighter budgeting – I'd just find an extra income stream useful to save/pay off debts faster. Also at the moment I don't do a whole lot with my evenings and weekends except hang out at home with my partner, and since we moved to the city I've struggled a bit in expanding my social life; so pub work seems like a possible remedy for that. Really my main worry is stretching myself so thin that I'll burn out and can't do either job properly!
All advice welcome, even if it's to give my head a wobble for asking about doing more work in an antiwork sub lmao
