Advice on maximizing free time while holding a busy job

I started a new job, and it's going to be very busy. My team seems great, and I'm not worried about team dynamics or anything like that. But I can already tell I'm going to have to be proactive about avoiding burnout. The last few years were very busy at my previous job, and really taught me that I need to not only maximize my rest time outside of work, but simply resting when I could wasn't enough. I got really burnt out, and my mental health suffered. I think I need to be proactive about ensuring I'm maximizing my free time away from work, and not just passively accepting free time when it appears. I'm lucky that this role is fully-remote, aside from maybe quarterly visits with the team in person. Also FYI – I don't intend on keeping this sort of high-pressure, high hours job forever. But I have personal stuff that's necessitating it for now, so leaving for a job with less stress or less hours is on hold and not easily possible.
