I work at a fast food where I’m the only Asian employee. I have a slight but obvious enough accent because I only moved here to the US when I was 16.
Whenever some customers demand things that are against the rules, they would absolutely fight me to the end. They would yell, scream, and give me death stares. They will not back down at all.
For instance, it’s not allowed to take orders at the drive thru window, but some people will miss the speaker and demand that I take their order there. It doesn’t matter how clearly and politely I explain that I can’t, they will not back down.
However, the moment my other coworkers explain it to them in the exact same wording that I do, they all of sudden (begrudgingly) behave. I’ve also received comments from my coworkers like “it’s that simple” after they deal with the customer who’s been yelling at me for 2 minutes. I feel so tiny compared to everyone,
I cried on my drive back home today because I’ve only realized it.
TLDR; I feel like I receive micro aggressive behaviors from some customers because I have a slightly obvious Asian accent. They are so behave and understanding to my other coworkers.
