Am I in the wrong for this? (involves pregnant women)

I will start off by saying I hate my job plain and simple, I do not plan on staying forever, however it is an easy job and I maintain the relationship purely in case I need something to fall back on in the future. Anyway for the last 7 months on and off I have been covering shifts, I usually do 20-25 hours, but because of staff taking time off for multiple reasons, I have done on and off 35-40hr weeks, I understand to a point because we are a small buisness. However roughly around Christmas I told the boss specifically I wouldn't be able to cover much, in complete honesty here, it is simply because I have physical health issues and mental health issues to take care of, I go gym, want to relax etc etc as work is a stress. Anyway 2 months after Christmas they tell me…

Anyway 2 months after Christmas they tell me I will have to cover 2 weeks again, other staff do too, so I budge and agree despite being uncomfortable with it, the reason is understandable as a staff members gf had a baby and he wants to be there I think, anyway that happens, and after I'm like okay done the last cover back to normal hrs etc etc.

Fast track to LAST FEW WEEKS, and now we find out a female member herself is pregnant, I had been asked to cover last week but turned it down, found out it was a check up for the baby (hence why they wanted me to cover), I felt bad but again didn't know the situation so I moved on.

Now this week, they are messaging me etc asking me to cover, at this point I cba with this BS, I clearly stated not wanting to work extra and month after month they ask, so instead of replying I just air their messages, don't respond, don't answer calls, firstly am I in the wrong for this? Should I have responded saying no?

Anyway after at work they ask me if I got the messages etc I simply say no, boss says “whatever” and walks out, I always like being honest though so when we talk later I say “I would have said no anyway” (probably a mistake but I was frustrated).

Anyway then the women who is pregnant goes on a rant to me shouting at me saying how she has to cover she does all the hard work etc etc it's not fair, before crying, it's worth noting at this point that whilst she does work a decent amount, nature of her job is it's no where near as hard as mine, she literally gets paid to stand there for atleast 6hrs of her shift per week.

She is also the bosses daughter so she gets treated MUCH differently as you would imagine.

My second question is, should I be expected to cover now despite my request just because other staff have women who are pregnant or are pregnant themselves? Again because we are small it means situations like this WILL happen more, I personally want them to hire another staff but they have come up with deluded reasons as why not to “less hours for everyone else, people will complain”

I know it sounds bad but for me it's almost like, I didn't get anyone pregnant, so, how is it my problem? How/why should this involve me? If they understand these situations will happen, just hire new staff?

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get this off my chest, it's worth noting I've left out certain details just to save time, I also might get fired for the argument however in my eyes it's doubtful, I am definitely walking on eggshells though despite (imo) not being in the wrong.

Anyway thoughts on this situation?
