I work at a housing first homeless shelter. I love my clients, but I don’t think it’s fair I’m given all of the clients unable to advocate for themselves, however, still expected to finish everything in a typical 40 hour work week. I get it if notes are expected to be updated in a timely fashion in order to appease the county. However, we also have to do “follow ups” which are stupid bc the requirements of what those consist of keeps changing, yet we’re still held accountable for making sure past follow ups satisfy the new requirement. I was even told for awhile that we will no longer have to do follow ups, but suddenly we do and the criteria for what they must consist of has suddenly changed and I’m still accountable for the moment in time we were told that they didn’t matter. Anyways, I have a high case load but most of the clients can self advocate and are expected to do so. We have a director and manager who do nothing, however, all of the clients who require extra attention due to disability have been given to me. I’d have no issue with it but I’m held at the same standard and as a result I noticed that after a bad week, then being behind on notes, my clients have been suffering. I’m willing to work late but I can’t just a stay late without asking. GOD FORBID! Our computers which are needed for documentation always go down, but now we suddenly can’t be at the front desk unless we are admin. Oh and to clarify I am new to this type of work and I don’t have any special qualifications where it would make sense to give me the most challenging cases, yet hold me at the same standards.
