Anticipating getting canned for giving notice

So yesterday I spoke with my agency about my 2 weeks notice I put in. I’m a contract employee in a professional setting. The company culture is actually pretty nice here. Although I considered they would let me go after putting in my notice, it was something as a courtesy. My contact for the agency gave me the heads up that I’ll be let go when they inform them of my notice. They said they would notify them by mid day today. I’ve never had a meeting before where I was let go. I’m guessing that since I’m not employed by this company that they don’t have to worry about unemployment. This fuels the idea that companies don’t need notice. Unless you need the reference just leave. This may be common practice in a B2B setting as a contractor but it still leaves a bitter taste.
