I started out as a contractor for this job, wfh full time because I live in another state from my team. I knew I wanted a full time job with them because their benefits are great.
Early spring of last year they laid off a bunch of folks for not going to the office 50% of the time. This didn’t apply to contractors.
April I accepted an offer, thinking I can make 50% of the time work (there’s an office nearby my city).
What happens when I go to the office? I sit on zoom for a few hours, get a bit of work done, eat some snacks, then come home at lunch.
Now I can barely get myself to go in once a week.
I’m going to talk to my boss about possibly making me full time remote, especially bc nobody I work with is in the office. It doesn’t make sense for me to waste time commuting to do the exact same things I do from home.
But I’m terrified. I don’t want to get fired. I don’t want to go through the interview process again.
Any advice to make a strong case for myself to wfh full time?
