Anyone else feel the double-edge sword of age?

When I was as in my twenties I had a hard time getting a job because I was considered too young and inexperienced. After landing something eventually after finishing school and working up in that job, I decided to follow a personal passion and change careers in a similar role, but a different industry. I sacrificed money and time to go back to school and take a low level job within my new sector. Now that I’ve graduated and have some experience I sometimes think that as challenging as this job market is now, being 48 makes it harder—only on the opposite end. Apparently, I have one foot in the grave and am overqualified. I was just curious what your experience with ageism has been? Compared to 10, 20, 30 years ago, how do you think it’s changed?
