I've worked at a few places that paid 2x pay on holidays and Sundays, but 1.5x pay on any other hours worked over 40 in a week. I have a job interview coming up where I have some leverage and I know they need my help. I'm usually not big on overtime, but I know they're probably needing me to work 50 hours a week at least for a while. So I was thinking about addressing this with an exchange something like this….
Me: So, would it be a deal-breaker for you if I only worked 40 hours a week?
Manager: Well, yeah, we really need to get X done in Y amount of time, and overtime is definitely going to be needed.
Me: Well, how about a compromise then? I'll work up to 50 hours a week, but any hours over 40 will be double time. Is that fair?
Just wondering if anyone has ever negotiated double pay for overtime, and if my approach is a good one.
