This happened to me just once, it was and over 10 years ago, but I still found it very unusual back then and whenever I told other people in my profession, it shocked them as well.
I am wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with their boss.
Long story short: it was my first job after graduation and during the job interview I somehow allowed the hiring manager/future boss to have a short chat with my mom who I was living with at the time. He was asking questions about my experience and my living situation must have come up in a topic of discussion.
Anyways, at the job, problems were beginning to show for many. There were issues with the payroll, making false promises about raises among other things, and people threatened to leave.
Morale among workers dropped but I especially displayed it because I kept showing up later and later to the job. I still managed to complete my tasks on time, and just wanted to take advantage of the unusual terms that they had set for me as a “employee” but not really an employee.
That's how it got to the point where my boss got tired of my later entrances to the office. He decided to set up a meeting to talk about my performance and also will get my mom involved in the phone call so she is aware of my situation, possibly so that she can make me wake up earlier. The phone call took place while I was at home so I was present with my mom. The boss generally explained how they do work and how I was making up reasons for showing up late.
It's been many years since I left the company and thankfully nothing like that ever happened with me again.
