I’m either petty or just reached a point where I’ve become a work sociopath.
I took a really silly, low paying job with a friend of mine that involved a distant interest of mine during the pandemic.
Well, of course, they were riding on the BLM finally all inclusive train ride. Saying all the right things, inviting staff to open up and come to them with anything that they may be struggling with in their personal life.
Well, at the time, I was being harassed by a family member that was triggering my mental health problems that I was still learning to navigate. I mentioned I am dealing with that. It didn’t affect my performance.
Shortly after, my friend got pregnant and was so excited and happy. Staff was giving her many congratulations. I kid you not, 3 days later, she was fired. Then a couple days after, I was fired.
I was mostly just entertained how on paper horrible they really are. They didn’t even try to sidestep the fact they were firing a woman that got pregnant and another who was open about her mental health. It was too good.
Rather than suing, I guess I preferred subjecting them to the slow torment of bureaucracy, so I got the department of labor involved. This was like 3 years ago. I can tell everyone at the labor department is terrible at their job. They’ll pick up the case like it’s the first time they are seeing it and can imagine they are just as clueless with the other side.
What has been your experience working with you state’s labor department?
I’m hoping this will be like groundhog’s day for them for many years.
