My direct boss is good about talking to me. But he tells me I need to learn how to get along with the managers from our adjacent teams. My problem is the other managers can and do make stupid decisions that impact the floor I work on. For no other reason but they can. My boss asked me, “Do you think they have time to just waste hours to think up petty stuff to do?”
Yes! I fucking KNOW that they do. Why do you think there hasn't been a female manager on staff in our facility for years?!
My latest gripe is that the other managers come onto my floor and take my equipment. They don't tell me, but when I go to look for it, it's gone. And my job gets delayed because I have to find alternate means to complete my stuff. I talked about it with my husband (he used to be a supervisor, so I ask him for advice), and he said a manager, they don't have to ask your permission, or let you know they're taking the equipment. Why should they have to ask you? So, I told him why is it when you're a manager you no longer have to communicate and be courteous to those around you? If I go to my client and tell them I couldn't get their shipment out on time because I didn't have my equipment, I'M gonna look like an asshole, and I will absolutely take management with me for this bullshit.
And then I'd have a (larger) target on my back.
This is disgusting. My boss says I have to pick and choose my battles if I want to move up. I've decided promotion isn't for me. I don't want more money for more responsibilities AND sucking off management because they're feelings got hurt.
