Antiwork

Applied for 1 day leave. Got an entire summer off.

Obligatory english sucks~ ————————– Was reading through some antiwork posts and all of a sudden i remember how my employment at Center Parcs in the netherlands came to an abrupt end. This is a story that happened quite some time ago. aka 10 years(?) ago, dont feel like doing the math at the moment. Had been working there in the weekends and school vacations for about 2 years, so fairly experienced. Was one of the crew that was able to actually guide/train newly hired people. – Restaurant work btw. Normally i had quite a good relationship with management. I worked hard and would always show up on time for my shifts. If asked if i could work extra hours i'd say yes 90% of the time, cause paid hourly and money = good. During 1 summer holiday (6 weeks?) i was going into my 3rd year of employment…

During 1 summer holiday (6 weeks?) i was going into my 3rd year of employment but the thing was i had recently joined a band and we were getting quite some gigs during the summer holiday. All of these gigs were pre-planned waaay in advance so planning wise it shouldve been no problem..

Except for 1 day.

I asked that 1 day off, 3 months in advance. It got denied. I asked why, their response; “There are no other people available that day”.

I'm like okay, that's weird, but no worries, i can just ask a colleague to exchange shifts so i'll have the day off.

I found that colleague, and he was okay with it, so we put in the paperwork to have it officially exchanged.

– It got denied

I'm like what, but why?

In comes the NEW manager (been hired as manager 1 week before or something). He basically said that exchanging shifts all the time would require too much work for the people who create the planning. (??) imo they just needed to click on OK in their planning program and it'd be done.

Well i really didnt like this, so i asked to have a little chat with the new manager.

At first he berated me for asking so much time off and i should be happy to work there and just accept the consequences of life and do the shift.

I was like, okay, but i cant, i got an internship in XYZ country this summer. So i cant work at all anymore.

The manager, who obviously sees im lying goes on a tirade that im the worst employee ever, that theyre super dissapointed and wont ever give me a referall etc etc.

I mean, if they can lie.. i can as well right?

The gigs were nice though. Fuck them. No regrets.
