At the moment I work in a plasma donation center as a phlebotomist and trainer. The wages are stagnating as cost of living rises.
After months, an opportunity knocks: General Management of a pizza joint. 15 – 20k raise, I've got food management experience, everything seemed great.
During the interview they implied I'd be paid as an assistant manager instead during training. It's still a decent raise I can handle for 4-6 months.
I suspected foul play so never actually quit my job; my first day was during a day off.
I come in and learn they intend to pay me just 11 dollars per hour, like a shift lead, while I learn the basics. Basically, during training I'm to be paid like a crew member.
“But that's a pay cut from my current job”
He seems very shocked and asks why I haven't quit my old job.
“Because of this right here”
I shook his hand, and stifled laughter as much as possible, walking right out the door.
Never even considering food work again.
Employees deserve much respect but food management is some of the most toxic I've experienced.
