I've been working full time at a very small company with less than 10 full time employees. I was so desperate to find any job that pays me above minimum wage so I accepted the offer without questioning anything. After a month, I started seeing red flags(too many that i cant mention all). To list a few…
- The company offers no benefit at all- and if you ever take a sick day or vacation, you have to “make up” the days you missed by working during your off days.
- The company will only give an average or 2 holidays off and the rest of the holidays will depend on the employees' performance that month.
- my boss would not let employees leave until he leaves, and sometimes he will have meeting that would go way over the work hour (up to an hour) but employees would never get paid for overtime.
- Many of the employees are immigrants who are getting their visa sponsorship from the company. my boss would call them during their off days and would ask to do extra work and if they don't, he threatens them using the work visa.
- Sometimes when hiring new employees, my boss would always look up the candidate's name on LinkedIn just to see how they look and would sometimes reject the candidate solely based on their looks.
I am thinking of quitting soon, but I wonder if I can/should report any of these to the labor board. There so much more than the ones listed, but I'd prefer not to disclose all the details until I leave just in case the company finds me exposing them.
