Are supervisors and trainers really serious when they invite you to ask questions but then berate you for it, and wonder why you dont talk to them?

That's the WORST. Especially when you're new to a job and learning new policies and procedures. Me: “Can you please clarify to me what code XXX means in the context of YYY?” Boss: “Are you kidding me right now, you should know this. I'm shocked I even have to break this down for you. Think critically here, and tell me – what do you think it means?” Me: waits silently unsure what to say for a whole minute.” Boss: *laughs condescendingly You should already know this. I'm going to have you sit with _____ so you'll get it. And you better remember it because I'm going to ask you later.” And then to avoid that same bully-power-trip I stick to asking those around me instead of my Boss, and start making actual progress. Boss: “It's very concerning that you aren't asking me questions. Fifth you have a problem, what's stopping…


That's the WORST.

Especially when you're new to a job and learning new policies and procedures.

You should already know this. I'm going to have you sit with _____ so you'll get it. And you better remember it because I'm going to ask you later.”

And then to avoid that same bully-power-trip I stick to asking those around me instead of my Boss, and start making actual progress.

Boss: “It's very concerning that you aren't asking me questions. Fifth you have a problem, what's stopping you from asking, I'm literally just a phone call away. You can even come to my office.”
