We had a team meeting at work the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at my place of employment. (US based company). The boss went around asking everyone what they were thankful for. Everyone else mentioned employment as the first thing. I mentioned my family and our health. Didn’t mention being employed (even though I’m very thankful for that). Someone asked why I didn’t mention being employed and I mentioned that jobs come and go while my family has been constant and as I get older, my health becomes more important. Quite the argument ensued with how I should value employment more and express my gratitude for being employed more. After the meeting, I received a couple emails from some in attendance that I committed “career suicide” by not mentioning how thankful I am to be employed by the company. I’ll accept the risk. Ridiculous. Just thought I’d share. Best wishes to all.
