First make a high six figure salary. Save it all and retire early. Did you already downvote me? I recognize this discussion is not what is typically discussed here in this sub. But This can be obtained. Please hear me out. Those who are willing to put some effort can obtain this goal. It is not without hard work and nothing is handed to any of us for free. I know, you already downvoted me and want to tell me to fuck off. But keep reading. It was recently reported that the Microsoft CEO salary dropped to $48M. CEO to grunt ratio is 250:1. Microsoft employs 220,000 employees worldwide. The average compensation per employee is $190k/year. I recognize that this does not mean everyone is making this high 6 figure salary and there certainly is a very large and wide spectrum. However, there are a lot of employees doing very…

my boss is putting a policy in place that basically we cant request time off unless we are swapping shifts. Uhh its not our “job” to make sure we are over staffed to fill in when people need time off. They also dont want to gove overtime so how is this supposed to work??? Basically they are upset that they keep having to come into work when we are short staffed because someone is on vacation. Fk this place.
I've detailed what's wrong with my current role and company in a previous post on another career sub, but the TLDR is that I work for a company that is pretty well known in my industry for overworking and abusing employees in various ways. I had no idea of their reputation prior to onboarding 2 years ago but now need to get out. Turnover is incredibly high, the average employees leave within 1-2 years, and I am working on gaining the credentials for a career change and actively applying to jobs. I'm completely burnt out and I have been putting in less than minimal effort for the past few weeks. At this point, all I can muster is answering emails and doing some of my expected work but not to company standard and absolutely not to the best of my ability. So many of my coworkers get away with doing…
Members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 which includes most casino hotel workers have voted to authorize a strike, which could happen any week. In response it sounds like casino owners are planning to hire scab labor instead of negotiating. Please write a letter at this website to Casino CEOs to negoatiate a fair contract arrangement with these workers: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/casinos-must-negotiate
Anyone’s Job Ever Aquiece to Demands?
My job requires extensive travel and apparently my job is fairly generous for the industry. We get our own rooms and we stay at nice hotels (I'm not talking the 4 Seasons or anything, more like a Residence Inn or Homewood Suites). Allegedly before I came there, they used to have to share rooms and stay at the cheapest fleabag motels out there. They were forced to let us have our own rooms and stay at nicer hotels because too many people were quitting and they were having trouble replacing those workers. I know that I would not have taken this job under the original conditions.
I spent a few days at home and a few days out of town on vacation. What I did is not important, although I definitely had fun. All week long I slept better, ate healthier food (when I was hungry, not on a schedule), and overall just enjoyed life.
I work for a catering company. Usually our company caters food and alcohol and staff. For this event only staff was needed. This was NOT a charity event, yet all of our tips were given to charity! I found out that day at the event that tips were going to charity, but apparently it was in the “event notes” (that servers and bartenders don't have access to) so our company knew about it beforehand. On the drink list at the bottom in fine print were the words: PLEASE NOTE: tipping is not necessary. Any tips received are donated to a local charity. In my opinion the guests were tipping for our service. For example, I would hand them a drink and they would then put money in the jar. Like a transaction almost. This was an open bar not a cash bar. We are all paid at least minimum wage.…
Might not be the right sub but I wanted to still try.Have an undergrad in economics and masters in management. Both from top 50 schools. I was an international student in the countries that I studied in. However, I never really had a career path in mind. My first exposure to a job was an internship in Bangkok when I was 18 at a multinational financial services firm. Though there was not much work and I soon realised that I was not carved for the 9 to 5 I really loved the city and cherish the time that I spent there. I was happy. Soon after that I got back to Europe and secured an internship while at university at a fortune global top 50. The work was terrible. Excel sheets in the name of analytics all day long. I hated it and I quit within 3 months. I have…
