I am going to preface this by saying I am 100% behind Palestinian liberation. I work for a jewish owned non-profit organization. Since the Israel-Hamas war started my job has gotten become unbearably stressful. The work itself has not changed, but every day my boss send out 2 emails: one is the company newsletter (something I intentionally didn't subscribe to) and a email talking about how they are upping the security at our worksites despite their being “no active threat made against the community” The newsletter is full of pro-Israel propaganda. Every lie you've heard from mass media is in that newsletter. A lot of it pertains to dead or kidnapped children, including pictures of these children with captions like “Will they ever be able to smile again?” Our organization mainly works with children, so I have no idea why my boss thinks its appropriate to send these. The emails…
In a job for all of 6 weeks — These people are looking for a submissive genius unicorn. I’m an executive assistant to c-suite and board liaison. I am person number 4 so far this year in terms of turnover. 15 years of relevant experience and well educated. There is no formal training in this role. The director answers every question with “you should know that.” And has called me a liar when I said Teams is down and I can’t send something out immediately, has told me I lack accountability, am lazy, told me at week 4 that was no longer new and could no longer use that as an excuse. Her response to me saying look we need to work together so I will gladly do what it takes to communicate effectively (I’m paraphrasing) was “you’re not doing me a favor, this is your job.” That’s enough for…
I’ve decided that I’m finally done…
I (FtM21) found a new job not even 25 days ago and i’ve already been fired. The reason I was fired is because I ‘didn’t fit the vibe’ and that my anxiety was ‘a problem’. First of all idek what ‘doesn’t fit the vibe’ means but i digress.. I actually felt the need to disclose to my boss that I had an anxiety disorder and bpd (borderline personality disorder). She told me to my face that it was no problem and she’s glad that she has a ‘diverse’ team. I mentioned that it will take a little bit more time to fall into my role because of my anxiety disorder and being uncomfortable around certain people. She said it was no problem and that she was ‘rooting for me’ and ‘if your anxiety is super bad let me know and i’ll help you.’ (Mind you the majority of the team…
Exempt Employee with some first responder duties Wondering what laws might exist regarding exempt employees with first responder duties. The job is at a commercial airport where air rescue firefighting and emergency medical responder duties are required during air carrier operations. If those duties only exist for two hours out of a 10 hour day; can an employee be categorized as exempt. Furthermore, if overtime only occurs due to first responder obligations… would that complicate matters? Job duty for exempt employees also include manual labor performance parameters Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Located in Colorado
Details: Joined a company tied to a government project. Great money, but a few weeks after I came in I found out it’s a total shit show. There are talks the government will scrap the project likely leading many of us to be laid off. I have been here 1.5-2 months. This is in Texas. Thanks for the info and advice.
So I tried to look up more information online but it’s hard to find the niche details like this. For context, my girlfriend is a server at an upscale restaurant in Florida, and her employer decided to block out time-off requests for everyone from about mid november until after new years. I get that this time around the holidays are busy, but that seems crazy to me. She and many others are part-time employees and the managers only make the schedule last minute and are always super slow at getting back to them about time off, and for the holiday time they have just been saying “can’t promise anything” and just went ahead and blocked out any chances of requesting off. I know employers can many times do what they want but is there any legal issues with this, or is it just an unfortunate situation for my lady? It…
