If someone told you they had the answer to solving late-stage capitalism…

if they told you they had the answer to: Fair wages for all Less working hours A home in a good area with good community would you work hard to make it a reality? Or do you think society is too far gone? I think all of us can diagnose the issues wrong with society – subreddits like this bind together people with common problems, but often no real answers. But if someone really gave you an answer for how to fix things that you believed would work, what would you do with that information?

Boss lied

I'm new to the sub and don't know what I'll get from this but here it goes. I got a new position at work going from construction to an office job and slowly realized how much my manager lied about the position. The two biggest things were over time and holiday breaks, over time was important because I took a pay cut in this position and I was told they have it which was a lie then find out a month in that I'm scheduled to be on call during the holidays which was never discussed and I am still a non exempt employee. So I thought I would reach out to hr to see what my options were, the shitty hr rep told my boss everything and I had to sit with him in a one on one meeting. It was borderline belittling, having to tell him repeatedly why…

Job hunting is giving me anxiety. How long does it take to land a college level job?

I knew it was difficult to begin with. I had three internships, and it still wasn't enough for me to find a job this year. I quit in February to seek a better-paying job. After thousands of failed applications in five months, I started using AI to paraphrase the job descriptions in my resume. It was successful, and I finally secured several appointments. The most challenging aspect for me is the ghosting. After dozens of interviews, nearly all of them ghosted me. Not knowing when they will call back within two weeks is causing me so much anxiety. It's been eight months since I quit, and I've only had one company interview me a third time. But it's been nine weeks since I applied, four weeks since my last interview, and they informed me earlier this week that they will decide between me and one other candidate. So much anxiety,…

Being fired?

I (NB22) had already made a post about a crappy little restaurant/cafe/coffeeshop or whatever it is that I work at. Basically you can read past post here . To summarize I did alot of extra work for no pay and was told that that was how my boss set it up on purpose . Anyways, against everyone's advice (ik I'm sorry to all of you who tried to help and to myself) I stayed. I sat down and had a conversation with my boss and I had a set schedule and set duties and she never encroached on any of these. I really needed the job so I worked extra through holidays and summer through my weekends and I covered for everyone I could cover for. However recently I got sick and was out for 3 days. I was still sick for about another week after that but one of…

I had a work from home job for four hours: they told me I couldn’t sit in a certain chair.

I recently took a remote position with an in-home veterinary euthanasia company because I’m two years in to a disability that I’m still acclimating to and working on accepting. I have been in the veterinary industry for several years prior to this as a practice manager, veterinary assistant, and receptionist. I am no longer physically capable of working in a normal clinic setting unless I strictly work reception -and- only have good days. On bad days, I need to lay back and elevate my feet because not doing so causes severe chest pain and a high heart rate for me. I hate it so very much. I’m telling you all this because I resigned from this position four hours after starting. The first four hours of work was a Zoom call that covered introductions and what we would be doing in training, as well as some tax paperwork with HR.…

HR/Legal Question

Basically a guy at my work dropped a deuce in the floor in the bathroom, management is mad. They’ve locked the mens bathroom and require a key to enter (this is totally legal as i understand.) they have not done this with the womens restroom. So is this a case of gender discrimination? I feel like this should be a title 9 thing. If our bathrooms are locked why not theirs?

Why am I not surprised….

So I won’t go into all the detail, but I live and work in Ontario, Canada and we have it pretty good in regards to labour law. I am a permanent remote worker but typically travel to a company facility about 2hrs away every 6-8 weeks for the day. My employers HQ is in another province for reference. Anyways, they cover my travel expenses (mileage, any tolls etc) however they refuse to acknowledge my travel time to and from as per the ESA 2000. (For reference it says a worker who is required to go to a different place of work other than their primary must be paid for their travel time). Note: this does not apply to exempt employees or those whose primary job function requires travel. My manager was not aware of this and when I made them aware they said they’d check with HR. Of course HR…

Ontario, Canada struggles

I am 35. My power just got shut off for the first time tonight. I have 6 candles lit so the room heats up and keeps my hedgehogs bin above 70F. I get paid in 2 days so its not too bad, they said partial payment wasnt good enough. 44k CAD a year. (31k USD) Struggling for years before this. Its too expensive to live, genx and boomer working class stay afloat by taking advantage of immigrant labor and housing bubble. Before Covid; 4 people do what my team of 2 does right now. I Inherited this position for no payraise shortly after being hired because the guy who hired me quit. Coworker on my team is incompetent and barely speaks english so I am basically doing the work of 3 people. I have had 1 raise in 2 years…… 5% raise(lower than inflation). Ive applied for 70+ jobs in…
