Hello fellas, I'm an expat working for a major international company where I've always maintained a good standing. This year, I'm hoping to spend at least a month in my home country with my family. I only visit them once a year and I miss them dearly. The standard policy in my compamy won't allow more than two weeks abroad, and as everything in this company, it's non-negotiable, regardless of you are a good employee or not. Furthermore, my job (creative) doesn't require my physical presence to get done, in fact I even work most of the time remotely. So me being away wouldn't affect anyone or any of the bilion dollars company's operations. So, my plan is to officially take one to two weeks off but actually be away for a month, working remotely from my home country. Here's the challenge: I use a Lenovo laptop issued by the…

Never let them hear you
Years ago I tried an experiment at work. Typical workplace exploitation, promoted fear so you were afraid of losing your job. One day I decided to try and turn the tables. I was on the phone in the office with my spouse. I loudly stated for all in the office to hear…”what? Your aunt passed away and is leaving us how much? Close to 2 million? We’ll, after that, the tables turned and as I was a decent employee, I was no longer treated like I NEEDED the job. Worked like a charm.
I work at a restaurant as a host. We rely mostly on tourists, so things are slowing down now that it’s September. This means lots and lots of standing around at the host stand. During a particularly slow night I created a series of colorful abstract doodles on the back of some coasters, and they looked cool, so I taped them up on the inside of the host stand. They weren’t where customers could see them. They weren’t in the way. They weren’t offensive. And yet when I returned for my next shift, they’d been torn down and thrown away. I’m not at all surprised – I just find it interesting that management felt the need to dispose of them so abruptly, especially when the host stand is otherwise a disorganized, chaotic mess. So why then? As punishment for not finding something “productive” to do? Because it “sets a bad…
I freaking hate it. The job market sucks right now so I know if I quit I’m gonna be screwed for a while. I’m paycheck to paycheck. I’ve been fantasizing about driving into a brick wall or something. I want to quit so bad but I need the money 🙁 only second day and I’m already in tears
My job is objectivly good. My colleagues are nice, my manager is supportive, I work for a non-profit (healthcare) in the IT department. My salary could have been better in a more corporate company but I don't want the pressure of a corporate environment. Right now I barely have deadlines, yes sometimes something springs up with urgency but I'm not expected to constantly “perform”. The downside is there is no room for promotions. Lately it's just been harder to drag myself out of bed. Even during weekends the only reason I get up is because my partner wants to have beakfast/lunch together. I've been fantasising about quitting, just doing nothing and living in a van. Even though my job is ok I still hate working and can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life. If anyone suggests therapy: I've been on the waiting list since Febuary and will…
Stayed four hours ovet after my shift all last week to cover for absenteeism due to vacation time. Had my earbuds in got my job done. Today when I come in and get a write-up for having earbuds in on the production floor. Rant over

Censored my company, don't want to dox myself
I am a higher-level government employee with nearly 18 years of service (sorry folks the bullshit doesn't stop no matter where you go). My boss just stormed into my office and yelled at me to “MAKE THIS YOUR PRIOTIY FOR THE REST OF THE DAY, YOU AREN'T GOING HOME UNTIL IT'S FIXED!!! NO ONE CAN USE IT!!!” Loud enough that a bunch of other employees snapped their necks to look over where I am. I informed her quite sternly I fixed that shit over a month ago and I have receipts of the emails I sent stating it was done and not one person has approached me to state it failed again or anything related to it. I asked who needed it or asked about it to bring this level of attention to it? No answer, of course. Just screaming to scream. Got my ass ripped for something I fixed…
Just don’t let the slaves know about it, pitchforks and torches never went out of fashion
I'm just sitting here enjoying my lunch when I remembered hearing that stupid line, which I haven't heard for a year at least by now.
