I worked in a lab Job was great at first, I could absolutely control my own flow of work. But as time went on , they turned the screw. Death by a 1000 cuts DO this and do that, even if it slows down the flow of work! By the end, I was required to write on the white board where I was if I left the lab (even if I was leaving for two minutes) and take the hands free phone with me, even though it went out of range as soon as I left the main doors. Told them this…. “Doesn't matter, make sure you take the phone with you” But as soon as I leave the lab, there is no signal! “Doesn't matter, make sure you take the phone with you” What's the point, it will not connect “Doesn't matter, make sure you take the phone…

Per Bloomberg article. How bad does it have to be for mainstream media to admit. Poor Americans Tap Debt, Buy Less Food as Consumer Cracks Widen Share of SNAP users who skipped meals, ate less doubled in Aug 67% carrying debt in poll of households on food benefits https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-08-30/poor-americans-tap-debt-buy-less-food-as-consumer-cracks-widen Among households using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program's boosted pandemic benefits, 42% skipped meals in August and 55% ate less because they couldn't afford food, more than double last year's share, according to a Wednesday report from Propel Inc., a benefits software developer. The data also highlight that households were worse off in August from just a month ago. Since July, an increasing share of low-income households had utilities shut off, couldn't afford the prior month's utility bill or couldn't afford rent. More than two-thirds of those surveyed who were receiving boosted SNAP payments said they had some form of debt.
I work in a prestigious organization at the capital (of Pakistan) and as we were all waiting for the elevator to come down so we can get on it. An old senior executive came, skipped the line (this isn't the issue as there's not much rush so almost everyone gets on the elevator) and then nobody was allowed to get on the elevator with him. Another employee who was trying to go up, had one of the elevator operators put up his hand physically to stop him and tell him to not share the elevator. This weird God complex really made my stomach turn.
I'm taking pre workout supplements now just to give me the energy and focus to get through the day. It's insane.
One Year Notice
Long time reader, first time poster. Earlier this year I made a decision that I was going to leave my company because things weren’t getting better one of those goals was actually start my own business. The year before we were given new contracts and in that contract it said because of though transition periods basically they would offer anyone willing to give a one year notice 25% of their annual salary if they stayed for that whole year. So here I thought this would be a great opportunity to help me and my family out through our own transition. A little back story, I’ve been with this company for almost 6 years and it’s an employee owned organization, sounds great right? Well my shares fully vest when I hit 6 years, so I put in my notice calculating it well past my 6 year anniversary mark. During the last…
Stuck in contract
My husband is a MMJ, multimedia journalist, and has been working for a Sinclair broadcasting group for 6-7 months. During this time he has suffered severely with mental health issues and the job has caused them and or made them a lot worse. He recently “quit” but we reread his contract and he has to pay back 40% of his annual pay. We have made 14k so far and now he has to pay back 11k. We don’t know how to get out of this situation. The company doesn’t want to fire him. Any advice?
I'm cynical as the rest of us, but I LIKED this job I got hired in, in many respects I feel like I am helping people and making a difference even though its a corporate environment in a sense. The thing is, today I was being trained and my job involves the operation of an air compressor to operate most of the machinery and DO said job. No one in the actual place I work in, seemed to be confident in the operation and maintenance of said air compressor, and it took a combo of me, lowly tech noticing, and training person who was pulling up the manual for equipment, to notice the air compressor was dangerously ill maintained for a full week of operation. From what I'm understanding, to state that the worst potential outcome of the problem THAT I NOTICED AND BROUGHT TO ATTENTION would be serious bodily…
I have been at my company for almost a year. It’s a contract position. I didn’t use any PTO for a long time. Now my boss is telling me that I cannot use PTO anymore for Fridays next month since I already have two Fridays off this month. I am leaving this position in two months… I also have only used two sick days and I have close to a dozen. So frustrated.
I guess it's normal right to work minimum wage or entry level jobs when you join workforce like full time or part time job in your 20s ? But, I feel bad Everytime I get a taunt or that look whenever I say I only have experience in fast foods and retail jobs because they consider it low class like some labor job with less pay and no vision to climb that ladder of success in the future. Sometimes people automatically assume warehouse jobs are miserable, call centers are boring, construction is intense labor job. It's like people automatically just give a title and description I just don't understand like majority of people start from the bottom and eventually work their way up by getting education or networking or learning a skill. I'm sure there must be many entry level jobs in so many fields where it doesn't require tons…
