Not sure how people will make it in the Bay Area?

The cost of a 1-bedroom Condo in the South Bay is hitting a million; houses are unreachable for the average worker. In other words you could make 200k a year and just barely scrape by — it’s just nuts now.

Why is speculating on homes and subjecting them to market forces a thing in the first place?

As the title suggests, Simply why? All western nations agree that food needs to be subsidized, because even if it would be cheaper to pareto optimize it and rely on imports, some weird instability might ruin the whole system or force military intervention into the third world. A home is a bedrock of civilization, and I have no idea why the same logic can not be applied here. This is not an anti-capitalist post per se, there are tons of industry where speculation and market dynamics come in handy, various technology sectors for example, from biotech to telecommunications… but why use the same logic on an essential thing like houses. “Yeah but the fatcats make money on homes” Sure, but they have myriad of other options for the same activity.

Fired, but have not been notified by the company. What to do?

On my second day of approved PTO, I received multiple texts from coworkers saying they were very sorry to hear the news and that they have enjoyed working with me. I also know that a few of my other coworkers were let go on the same day. The strange thing is that I have not been notified by the company that I have been let go. What do you all think I should do?

I didn’t think companies making you do company chants before every shift was real.

What. The. Fuck. I’ve recently been hired for a part time position at a big electronics retailer. I don’t know if naming companies is allowed on this sub so I won’t, let’s just call it Worst Sell. Every single morning they make everyone repeatedly shout an incredibly corny chant about the company. I didn’t actually think places did this, well at least in Canada I guess. Wow. I’ve yet to participate nor will I ever but I’m stunned regardless. Sorry but I’m not this passionate over minimum wage pay to shout your company name at the top of my lungs like it’s one’s favourite sports team. Needless to say that revelation along with insane pressure to sell to every customer despite our how “no commission no pressure” bullshit plastered everywhere has me on my way out. Every previous role has been commission based and the pressure to sell and aggressive…

Employees let go after 40 years with the company.

A little background. My parents worked for a company all their lives, the whole crew got hired after graduating out of university and stayed ever since. I grew up knowing each of them personally and their stories, families. A new GM got hired and fired all of the people from the original crew, during a meeting, in the most embarrasing way. No gratitude was shown to these people who devoted all their lives to the company, through sick and thin, kept it afloat and gave their all. No ” thank you” , no “good bye”, no aknowledgment when they left the building, nothing. When I worked Food & Beverage, it was a huge ordeal when someone had their last day of work. It came with many thanks, hugs, tears and whipped cream. And it was a seasonal job, where people come and go!!! Not a job where you work 40…

Tristan Tate: “The cost of living crisis actually upsets me. Watching healthy, able bodied, hard working people break down because they’ll never own a thing, showing how few groceries they get for their money when trying to feed their f-ing kids. Outrageous. “

How to talk to manager about recent issues with supervisor?

So I work in vet med and am a receptionist. I work at a private clinic with three total doctors and maybe 20 total support staff including me. I’ve been working there since may 2022 and have really enjoyed working with animals and the people and I get relatively decent pay. Anyways an older woman got hired as a receptionist ~6 months back and we got along well. She eventually because lead reception due to her 20+ years as a receptionist at another vet at another state. I say we get along because not more than 4-6 weeks ago she texted me how much she already values me on the team and appreciates my work ethic and hopes to support me moving forward. Fast forward to recent past 3 weeks, she overshares a lot and we all know she has a hernia and will need surgery soon. She has been…

Fucking mind numbing how many boomers are only interested in talking about “how nobody wants to work these days”

Dude shut the fuck up. Your brain has lead paint chips swimming around in there. Okay but actually, it’s everywhere. They constantly complain like I’m gonna agree with them.

Indeed’s head of economic research declares “the Great Resignation has come to an end” after today’s (Aug 29) JOLTS data showed just how much job openings have been declining while fewer workers are quitting. The stock market re-inflated on this news because it means the end of inflation.

Every business day, the business news website “MarketWatch” posts one “Market Snapshot” article to summarize what happened in the markets that day. In today's Market Snapshot article, the head of economic research at Indeed Hiring Lab made quite an interesting statement. Here's the Market Snapshot article from today, Aug 29, 2023: Dow ends nearly 300 points higher, with investors mulling Fed move after drop in job openings FTA: Stocks posted the third consecutive day of gains in an otherwise downbeat trading month for August. New numbers showed job openings in July retreating to a 28-month low while fewer workers were quitting. Job listings dropped to 8.8 million, lower than the forecast of 9.5 million. Meanwhile, 3.5 million people quit their jobs in July, the lowest level in over two and a half years — a sign that job seekers are getting more cautious. Consumer confidence also fell in August, dropping…
