Company provided health/dental care
Why does the care provided by companies get to be such garbage these days. I work in IT and get health care provided by my employer yet it still costs me $1000+ to get a full tooth restoration including a root canal + core + crown because only $1500 is covered by insurance. Also who makes these prices? If you search these procedures the cost range is from one price to double or triple the original. We live in a system where dentists are literally telling you to wait to have any big procedures done until december so you can have coverage again in january to finish the work.
What would it take for a general strike?
Is it all calculated? That we’re all financially in a place that we’re a few paychecks away from (or even currently) having our debts and bills drown us so there’s no time to protest? That we’re supposed to make our work our identity and pride so we don’t want to leave and protest? The fact that everyone’s so caught up in consumption of social media and material things that no one thinks or cares to protest? The fact that individuality (comforts, etc) takes priority over all else? So again no one cares to protest because they have to take care of themselves first (which, yeah I do this too) Highlighting all our differences via some labels for ourselves so people can’t see the common struggles? Clouding political, economic, financial knowledge in some jargon and bullshit that makes us think the economic system IS to our benefit but we’re just not…
How to word a spiteful resignation
Hey all, I need help phrasing my resignation email for my job. I've worked at this warehouse about 3 years, and have been off on FMLA leave the last two months because of a minor work injury that occured due to overwork. Additionally, yesterday I learned for the first time from HR that the entire time I've been reporting in that I needed FMLA time off, I wasn't doing it in the proper beurocratic way that would allow me to actually return to work without them recording further no call no shows while the paperwork processes. Before this injury happened, I was fully intending to quit September 1, and still plan to, because I'm going back to college. I also have no love in my heart for management or this company due to a long history of them making decisions at the expense of their employees. I'm planning to quit…
This happened the other day. I(28) work in a hotel and my coworker(35) is the one who takes the dirty linen/trash. It's 11 floors for context, we've both been there a year. We got a new supervisor(who's 22) 2 weeks ago and a new manager(40s) in August. I don't see coworker for more than 3 times a day. Even couting eating lunch together on UNPAID time. Talking and shooting through shit makes work suck less obviously. We got separated like schoolchildren. We get our work done and make our hours so do yall think that's justifiable or stupid? Either way I'm leaving️🤣
Mandatory overtime is manipulation
I work in construction. Mandatory overtime is infinite and eternal. Mandatory overtime is the culture. “That's where the big money is to be made! It's normal. It's good. It's amazing! BE A SLAVE LIKE US! Yay corporate bootlicking.” They get people in here that are living pay check to pay check. They cannot afford to lose their jobs. The big bosses push mandatory overtime because they know the folks that live paycheck to paycheck are wage slaves and will not rebel. I rebel. I was fired from a previous job because I refused to work consistent overtime. I literally did my straight 40 and took days off. This upcoming weekend my current corporation wants me to come in on Fridays, Sundays, and now this upcoming Monday (labor day). I just told my foreman that I am going to enjoy my 4 day weekend and that he is welcome to give…
My SO has been dealing with a relatively new manager and is a micromanager of hell. SO has been with company for years having several managers and always positive performance reviews, no issues ever raised. New manager is constantly pointing out subpar work performance, (SO says borderline bullying tactics) etc. SO is a non confrontational person but is at the point will be filing a formal complaint to the manager's manager who was previously directly SO manager. Anyone ever done this? I don't see much coming from it and could be risky but SO is planning to leave company in a few months anyway. Apparently the top manager has received other complaints (maybe not to level of formal) about this micromanager and has been asking around. I'm of the mindset companies protect low level managers before regular employees.
I despise working for my father
The title says it all. I get paid a barely livable salary and I am expected to work like a horse, in the hopes that some day I might be paid better. He is 60 years old and drives a 100k car, while I can barely afford to make ends meet, and buy some cheap clothes every now and then. Thanks to him, I understand why the general population hates rich people. “If you want to succeed you have to work at least 12 hours a day minimum”. Yeah what a great example to set. I should abandon my family and let my kid grow up alone, so I can become an old bitter man complaining about how “young people don’t want to work these days”. Well if you don’t pay people a living wage, they won’t work, who could have thought. I am doing everything I can to leave…
Never understood the notion of running errands during a lunch break. How can someone go to the doctor’s, get groceries, get exercise or pick up their children from school? The other day I went to a meeting at my Fortune 500 company where I just sat and listened all day and got an hour lunch break. It was so much time compared to what I’m used to that I didn’t know what to do with myself. No wonder people get so much done during the day. Makes me jealous that I have use PTO just to go to the dentist and others don’t. I envy people who get paid 120k per year just to sit in meetings all day and have good work/life balance in a position called “Executive Site Director of Sales”
